Mayapur is a major spiritual destination in West Bengal, best known for the world headquarters of ISKCON. Located around 130 km from Kolkata, Mayapur is a popular weekend getaway for travelers looking to explore spiritual and cultural heritage near the city.

My Journey to Mayapur
While staying in Kolkata as a traveler, I was always curious to explore nearby spiritual destinations. That’s when I planned a road trip to Mayapur.
I started early in the morning from Kolkata. The distance of around 130 km took approximately 3–4 hours by road. On the way, I passed through various towns of rural Bengal and stopped at local eateries to try simple Bengali food.
After reaching Mayapur, I checked into a hotel that I had booked online. Unfortunately, the stay experience was not very satisfactory. After resting for some time, I began exploring the main attraction — ISKCON Mayapur.
The temple complex is large, clean, and well-organized. I attended darshan and later joined the Ganga Aarti experience by hiring a boat. During the boat ride, kirtan and puja were performed, and the boat took us along the Ganga before returning back. The devotional atmosphere during the aarti was one of the most memorable parts of the trip.
The next day, I spent more time exploring the ISKCON campus, attending darshan again, walking around the temple grounds, and having prasad at the temple.
I spent two full days in Mayapur, which felt sufficient to experience the spiritual environment, temple rituals, and river-side calmness.
