Mandarmani is one of the closest and most budget-friendly beach destinations near Kolkata. Located along the Bay of Bengal, Mandarmani is popular for quick weekend trips, beachside resorts, and affordable group getaways.
If you’re looking for a nearby coastal escape without spending too much time or money, Mandarmani can be a convenient option. It may not be the cleanest or most scenic beach in India, but for a short 2-day break, it works well — especially for groups.
This blog covers my experience, how to reach, places to visit, stay options, budget, and tips for planning a Mandarmani trip.
My Journey to Mandarmani
During the COVID period, when travel options were limited and long-distance trips felt uncertain, I was staying in Kolkata. That’s when Mandarmani became an easy choice.
I tried visiting Mandarmani twice with my society group. Since it’s just around 4–5 hours by road from Kolkata, it was a practical option for a short and safe getaway during that time.
The road trip was simple and manageable. We drove down together, which made the journey enjoyable. The beachside resorts were operating with basic safety measures, and it felt good to step out after months of staying indoors.
Honestly, I did not find Mandarmani as clean as I had expected. Certain stretches of the beach could have been maintained better. However, if you are looking for a cheap and nearby place to hang out for 2 days with friends or family, I would still recommend it.
For a relaxed, budget-friendly weekend from Kolkata — without too much planning — Mandarmani does the job.
