Kalimpong – A Peaceful Hill Escape After Kurseong
After enjoying the peaceful tea gardens and misty weather of Kurseong, our next stop on the same trip was Kalimpong. The journey from Kurseong to Kalimpong itself was beautiful with winding hill roads, glimpses of the Teesta River, and lush green valleys along the way. By the time we reached Kalimpong, the pace slowed down even more, and the town welcomed us with its calm vibe, monasteries, and open views of the hills.
Places to Visit in Kalimpong
Deolo Hill
The highest point of Kalimpong, Deolo Hill gives wide views of the valleys and surrounding mountains. The garden here is a nice place to walk around and spend some time. On clear days, you can even see snow peaks far away.
Durpin Hill & Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery
Durpin Hill is another viewpoint of Kalimpong, and at the top stands the beautiful Zang Dhok Palri Phodang Monastery. The prayer flags, wheels, and peaceful atmosphere make it worth visiting. The view of the Teesta River valley from here is stunning.
Morgan House
An old colonial bungalow surrounded by greenery. The architecture and location make it an interesting stop.
Cactus Nursery (Pine View Nursery)
Kalimpong is famous for nurseries, and the cactus nursery has a huge collection of different cactus and succulents. A peaceful and unique place to explore.
Tharpa Choling Monastery
Another calm monastery located on a hilltop, away from the main town. It’s less crowded and very peaceful.
Local Market
The market area in the evening is lively. You can walk around, shop for small souvenirs, and try local snacks like momos and noodles.

From Rishap, you can continue to Lava, which is around 30 km further.
