Mahabaleshwar is one of the most popular hill stations in Maharashtra, known for its scenic viewpoints, strawberry farms, temples, and pleasant weather during monsoon and winter. Located around 120 km from Pune, Mahabaleshwar is a favorite road trip destination for families and weekend travelers.

The hill station is famous for sunrise and sunset points, lush valleys, boating at Venna Lake, and fresh strawberry products. While monsoon is considered the ideal season to visit, Mahabaleshwar attracts visitors throughout the year.

My Journey to Mahabaleshwar

During one extreme summer holiday, I planned a 2-day family trip to Mahabaleshwar from Pune. Honestly, it wasn’t the ideal season — monsoon is when the hill station looks its best. But I had a strong craving to visit the famous viewpoints and enjoy the mountain air.

We started early for a road trip from Pune. The drive was smooth and scenic, with winding roads and changing landscapes as we moved closer to the hills. Even though it was summer, the temperature felt slightly better compared to the city once we gained altitude.

Over two days, we covered multiple sunrise and sunset points. Watching the valley views during sunset was still beautiful, even without monsoon greenery. Early mornings were comparatively cooler and perfect for exploring viewpoints.

We also visited the famous Mahabaleshwar Temple, one of the oldest temples in the region. The spiritual atmosphere added a calm touch to the trip.

Of course, no trip to Mahabaleshwar is complete without strawberries. We bought fresh strawberries and local strawberry products from the market. Even during summer, it felt good to experience the local specialty.

Though summer may not be the most scenic season, the road trip, viewpoints, temple visit, and family time made the 2-day getaway memorable.

Arthur’s Seat – Arthur’s Seat is one of the most popular viewpoints in Mahabaleshwar. It offers dramatic valley views and is often called the “Queen of Points.” The deep valleys and layered hills create a stunning landscape, especially during clear mornings.

Wilson Point – Wilson Point is the highest point in Mahabaleshwar and is famous for sunrise views. It offers wide panoramic views and is less crowded if visited early in the morning.

Elephant’s Head Point – Named after its natural rock formation resembling an elephant’s head, this viewpoint offers unique valley views and is ideal for photography.

When visiting Mahabaleshwar, food is simple, fresh, and influenced by local Maharashtrian flavors. The hill station is especially famous for strawberries and strawberry-based products, along with classic roadside snacks and hearty meals.

Fresh Strawberries – Mahabaleshwar is known as the strawberry capital of India. During the season (December to March), you’ll find fresh strawberries sold at roadside stalls and local markets. Even in off-season, many shops sell preserved strawberry products.

Strawberry Cream – One of the most popular desserts here is strawberries served with fresh cream. It’s simple but refreshing and a must-try when in Mahabaleshwar.

Corn Patties & Sandwiches – Local stalls and cafés serve hot corn patties and grilled sandwiches, which are perfect evening snacks after visiting viewpoints.

By Air

The nearest airport to Mahabaleshwar is Pune International Airport, located approximately 120 km away.

From Pune Airport:
